{"id":660,"date":"2025-04-14T11:26:25","date_gmt":"2025-04-14T11:26:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/michelleshaw.co.uk\/?p=660"},"modified":"2025-04-14T11:26:25","modified_gmt":"2025-04-14T11:26:25","slug":"park-run-more-than-a-run-finding-my-pace-my-way","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hopeful-elgamal.88-208-215-195.plesk.page\/?p=660","title":{"rendered":"Park Run \u2014 More Than a Run"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 class=\"\" data-start=\"311\" data-end=\"339\">Park Run \u2014 More Than a Run<\/h1>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"341\" data-end=\"385\">So many things come up for me on these runs\u2026<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"387\" data-end=\"511\">I run. \ud83c\udfc3\u200d\u2640\ufe0f<br data-start=\"399\" data-end=\"402\" \/>I walk. \ud83d\udeb6\u200d\u2640\ufe0f<br data-start=\"415\" data-end=\"418\" \/>I listen. \ud83d\udc42<br data-start=\"430\" data-end=\"433\" \/>I observe. \ud83d\udc40<br data-start=\"446\" data-end=\"449\" \/>I dance. \ud83d\udc83<br data-start=\"460\" data-end=\"463\" \/>I choreograph. \ud83c\udfb6<br data-start=\"480\" data-end=\"483\" \/>I chat. \ud83d\udde3\ufe0f<br data-start=\"494\" data-end=\"497\" \/>I breathe. \ud83c\udf2c\ufe0f<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"513\" data-end=\"747\">I push myself when I can and adjust my tempo when my body needs it.<br data-start=\"580\" data-end=\"583\" \/>No pressure. No obsession with my time. No chasing any personal best.<br data-start=\"652\" data-end=\"655\" \/>I choose me \u2014 and care enough to show up \u2014 fully, presently, my whole self, however I am. \ud83d\udc9b<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"749\" data-end=\"1068\">The views at Sherwood Pines are breathtaking \u2014<br data-start=\"795\" data-end=\"798\" \/>the kind of place that feels more like the Canadian Lakes than the middle of Nottinghamshire. \ud83c\udf32\ud83c\udfde\ufe0f<br data-start=\"897\" data-end=\"900\" \/>So picturesque. So idyllic.<br data-start=\"927\" data-end=\"930\" \/>If you run too fast, you miss it.<br data-start=\"963\" data-end=\"966\" \/>Another reason to slow down.<br data-start=\"994\" data-end=\"997\" \/>To see it. \ud83d\udc40<br data-start=\"1010\" data-end=\"1013\" \/>To feel it. \ud83e\udd32<br data-start=\"1027\" data-end=\"1030\" \/>To smell it. \ud83d\udc43<br data-start=\"1045\" data-end=\"1048\" \/>To appreciate it. \ud83c\udf38<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1070\" data-end=\"1395\">The families taking part are just as heartwarming \u2014<br data-start=\"1121\" data-end=\"1124\" \/>watching them look after each other, cheering each other on, their furry friends running alongside them. \ud83d\udc3e<br data-start=\"1231\" data-end=\"1234\" \/>There\u2019s a real strength in numbers here \u2014 a real community spirit. \ud83e\udef6<br data-start=\"1303\" data-end=\"1306\" \/>Honestly, there\u2019s nowhere else I\u2019d rather be than at a Park Run on a Saturday morning. \u2600\ufe0f<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1397\" data-end=\"1572\">Exercise is a benefit \u2014 but it\u2019s never been my motivation.<br data-start=\"1455\" data-end=\"1458\" \/>The real gift is the showing up. \ud83c\udf81<br data-start=\"1493\" data-end=\"1496\" \/>The being part of something bigger.<br data-start=\"1531\" data-end=\"1534\" \/>The meeting myself exactly where I am.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1574\" data-end=\"1842\">Just like the weather shifting without warning \u2014 colder, warmer, colder again \u2014 I\u2019ve learned that my body and needs shift too. \ud83c\udf26\ufe0f<br data-start=\"1704\" data-end=\"1707\" \/>Especially now that I\u2019m trialling HRT.<br data-start=\"1745\" data-end=\"1748\" \/>It\u2019s not something to control or fight.<br data-start=\"1787\" data-end=\"1790\" \/>It\u2019s something to meet, like a change in the air. \ud83c\udf43<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1844\" data-end=\"2172\">So while others might arrive in shorts and t-shirts (or less), I often set out looking ready to meet snow. \u2744\ufe0f\ud83e\udde3\ud83e\udde4<br data-start=\"1957\" data-end=\"1960\" \/>Layers, gloves, hat \u2014 all carefully choreographed, not random.<br data-start=\"2022\" data-end=\"2025\" \/>I strip each layer as I go: hat first, then gloves, then jacket. \ud83e\udde5<br data-start=\"2092\" data-end=\"2095\" \/>Allowing my body to breathe and brew its own rhythm while I move forwards. \ud83c\udfb6<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2174\" data-end=\"2344\">It\u2019s not about looking the part.<br data-start=\"2206\" data-end=\"2209\" \/>It\u2019s about feeling the part \u2014 understanding what\u2019s real for me now after a late diagnosis, and honouring that every step of the way. \ud83c\udf1f<\/p>\n<hr class=\"\" data-start=\"2346\" data-end=\"2349\" \/>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2351\" data-end=\"2722\">On my third Park Run, I had started to pick certain things up about the protocol. \ud83d\udece\ufe0f<br data-start=\"2436\" data-end=\"2439\" \/>The volunteers are exceptional in giving instructions and setting you up. \ud83d\ude4c<br data-start=\"2515\" data-end=\"2518\" \/>Repetition is key \u2014 it\u2019s what helps me remember what to do on reaching the finish line. \ud83d\udd04<br data-start=\"2608\" data-end=\"2611\" \/>Each run, a few more pieces drop into place. \ud83e\udde9<br data-start=\"2658\" data-end=\"2661\" \/>Each step, a little more trust and familiarity builds up. \ud83d\udee4\ufe0f<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2724\" data-end=\"2904\">By run #3, when I spotted the finish line, I was able to pick up the pace. \ud83c\udfc1<br data-start=\"2801\" data-end=\"2804\" \/>I started repeating in my head:<br data-start=\"2835\" data-end=\"2838\" \/><em data-start=\"2838\" data-end=\"2877\">&#8220;Get my tag, get my tag, get my tag!&#8221;<\/em><br data-start=\"2877\" data-end=\"2880\" \/>(If you know, you know.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2906\" data-end=\"3107\">My phone had died halfway round \u2014 but somehow, almost instinctively, my second phone was already in my hand. \ud83d\udcf1\ud83d\udcf1<br data-start=\"3019\" data-end=\"3022\" \/>(And yes, I carry two phones \u2014 because it works for me. No one else needs to get it.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3109\" data-end=\"3343\">Despite barely any signal, the Parkrunner app had downloaded. \ud83d\udcf6<br data-start=\"3173\" data-end=\"3176\" \/>I collected my tag. \ud83c\udf9f\ufe0f<br data-start=\"3199\" data-end=\"3202\" \/>I scanned my barcode. \ud83d\udcf7<br data-start=\"3226\" data-end=\"3229\" \/>Because this mattered.<br data-start=\"3251\" data-end=\"3254\" \/>I mattered.<br data-start=\"3265\" data-end=\"3268\" \/>And I wanted every single run logged as evidence that Michelle was here. \ud83d\udcdd<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3345\" data-end=\"3378\">Now\u2026 where did I park the car? \ud83d\ude97<\/p>\n<hr class=\"\" data-start=\"3380\" data-end=\"3383\" \/>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3385\" data-end=\"3411\">And then came Park Run #4.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3413\" data-end=\"3514\">Same spirit, same approach \u2014 but it felt more automated somehow, like something had shifted again. \ud83d\udd04<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3516\" data-end=\"3741\">I noticed it in the way my breathing settled earlier. \ud83c\udf2c\ufe0f<br data-start=\"3573\" data-end=\"3576\" \/>In the way my legs found their rhythm without overthinking. \ud83c\udfb5<br data-start=\"3638\" data-end=\"3641\" \/>In the way I trusted my body to guide the pace \u2014 not too fast, not too slow. \u2696\ufe0f<br data-start=\"3720\" data-end=\"3723\" \/>Just right for me.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3743\" data-end=\"3890\">I didn\u2019t fear anything or feel phased by anything.<br data-start=\"3793\" data-end=\"3796\" \/>I didn\u2019t go out chasing anything.<br data-start=\"3829\" data-end=\"3832\" \/>And without even trying, I hit a personal best \u2014 again. \ud83e\udd47<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3892\" data-end=\"3972\">In fact, looking back, I\u2019ve hit a personal best <strong data-start=\"3940\" data-end=\"3961\">every single time<\/strong> so far. \ud83c\udfc6<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3974\" data-end=\"4131\">Not by forcing it.<br data-start=\"3992\" data-end=\"3995\" \/>Not by chasing it.<br data-start=\"4013\" data-end=\"4016\" \/>By intentionally showing up. \ud83e\udef6<br data-start=\"4047\" data-end=\"4050\" \/>By listening. \ud83d\udc42<br data-start=\"4066\" data-end=\"4069\" \/>By adjusting \u2014 one breath, one layer, one step at a time. \ud83c\udf3f\ud83d\udc63<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4133\" data-end=\"4261\">And yes \u2014 as I neared the finish line, those familiar words popped into my head again:<br data-start=\"4219\" data-end=\"4222\" \/><em data-start=\"4222\" data-end=\"4261\">&#8220;Get my tag, get my tag, get my tag!&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4263\" data-end=\"4334\">Another barcode scanned. \ud83d\udcf7<br data-start=\"4290\" data-end=\"4293\" \/>Another small but mighty moment logged. \u2728<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4336\" data-end=\"4459\">Four runs.<br data-start=\"4346\" data-end=\"4349\" \/>Four personal bests.<br data-start=\"4369\" data-end=\"4372\" \/>Four powerful reminders that it\u2019s not about the speed \u2014 it\u2019s about the showing up. \ud83c\udfc1\ud83d\udc9b<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4461\" data-end=\"4657\">And yes\u2026 whilst I still had to wander around a bit before I found where I\u2019d parked \ud83d\ude97, I\u2019d remembered enough after leaving it.<br data-start=\"4587\" data-end=\"4590\" \/>(When we get there it\u2019s quiet \u2014 but it\u2019s jam-packed when we leave!)<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4659\" data-end=\"4708\">Some things are just part of the journey. \ud83d\udeb6\u200d\u2640\ufe0f\ud83d\udcab<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Park Run \u2014 More Than a Run So many things come up for me on these runs\u2026 I run. \ud83c\udfc3\u200d\u2640\ufe0fI walk. \ud83d\udeb6\u200d\u2640\ufe0fI listen. \ud83d\udc42I observe. \ud83d\udc40I dance. \ud83d\udc83I choreograph. \ud83c\udfb6I chat. \ud83d\udde3\ufe0fI breathe. \ud83c\udf2c\ufe0f I push myself when I can and adjust my tempo when my body needs it.No pressure.
